:: Frequently Asked Questions ::
Maintaining Correct Alkalinity
Alkalinity should be between 90-140 ppm (parts per million).
If Alkalinity is high than weekly additions of acid should be added.
If Alkalinity is low than soda ash also known as alkalinity up should be added in doses of 1kg and check.
Add more if nescessary.
Maintaining Correct PH
When PH is correct the system works best.
PH should always be between 7.6-7.8 for pools other than fibreglass which is 7-7.2.
A higher PH means that you will not utilise the full potential of the system and more chlorine is required.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
This indicates mineral content in your water.
The TDS should be around 1000ppm.
This creates a medium to conduct current and is beneficial in keeping ozone levels at maximum.
TDS levels can be raised by adding Sodium chloride (salt) or water softener salt.
Ordinary city water has a typical TDS of about 400-800ppm, while some well water with high Calcium content could run over 1,200ppm.
Metals
Borehole and well water should be checked before filling your pool.
The Dolphin releases very small amounts of copper.
Correct Metal levels are between 0.5-1.0.
Copper levels should be checked once every 8 months and should not exceed 1ppm.
If levels are higher disconnect unit at switch (on side of unit) and retest.
Reconnect unit when levels are at 0.5
Green Algae
This is the easiest form of algae to control and the most common type.
Usually this algae accumulates around the edge of a pool.
Unfortunatelly without the system you will have to use large amounts of algaecide.
With the system it should dissapear within 2 weeks.
Black Algae
Black Algae is one of the most difficult algaes to control.
This algae is like a fungus and can develop quite quickly if not treated on time.
Large amounts of algaecide are required as well as high levels of chlorine.
You can eradicate it by sprinkling small amounts of chlorine powder over it at night when the pump is off.
Maintaining Adequate Chlorine Levels
Chlorine levels should always be kept at 1ppm with your system.
Check and maintain this level especially after it has rained heavily.
Without the system your levels must be maintained at 3ppm.
The best way to add chlorine is through the weir don't sprinkle.
Filtration
Your filter should always be properly maintained.
Make sure your sand is not brittle.
Your sand should be replaced every 4-5years.
If you have bought a new house and are not sure it is better to replace the sand.
Brittle sand will cause damage to your pump and motor.
Backwashing and Rinsing Your Pool
Backwash and then rinse your pool once a week.
Check to see the water passing out is clear.
Pump Run Time
Set your timer to run for 9hrs daily with the system.
Without the system you will be running your pump for 12hrs daily.
